Careers

Greyhound racing continues to be a thriving industry in Great Britain, with over 7,000 people currently employed in a variety of skilled and exciting roles. This ranges from vets, trainers, breeders and kennelhands to promoters, racing managers, paraders and stewards.

The sport offers excellent opportunities for young people and school leavers who want to pursue a career working with animals. Academic qualifications are not essential for this, but everyone working within the industry loves and cares for our dogs.

Apprenticeships in Racing

Are you interested in learning how to care for racing greyhounds whilst gaining a transferable qualification?

The new Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship is a Level 2 Apprenticeship which has been developed in partnership with a number of prominent animal care employers, including the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Working alongside a GBGB registered trainer, you will learn the ‘gold standard’ for caring and raising racing greyhounds. The majority of your time will be spent gaining first-hand experience and completing modules in animal care and welfare, biology, behaviour and handling. You will also have the chance to attend guest lectures with specialists in the field, including with an animal behaviourist from Dogs Trust.

For more information, please contact GBGB HR Manager Zoe Brown on zoe.brown@gbgb.org.uk.
